Tall John’s Neighborhood Tavern Opens Patio Seating, Introduces Brunch
ASHEVILLE, May 16, 2023 — Tall John’s (152 Montford Ave) is ready for summer thanks to a new 36-seat outdoor dining patio and Sunday brunch from 9am-2pm. Dinner hours have also expanded, with chef/owner Trevor Payne and team serving local favorites every day 4pm-9pm.
The patio, which offers both sunny and shady seating options, will be open during both brunch and dinner service. For those who prefer dining indoors, Tall John's award-winning indoor space offers multiple seating options, including dining room tables and counter seats at both kitchen and bar.
The new brunch menu, which includes small plates, traditional brunch entrees, a la carte sides, classic cocktails and a variety of espresso drinks, can be found on Tall John’s website at www.talljohns.com. Popular brunch menu items include:
Brunch Burger: Chop Shop beef burger patty cooked to juicy medium, topped with American cheese, bacon, grilled onions & a just-messy-enough but not-too-runny fried egg, sandwiched in a toasted & dijonaise-topped English muffin, served with fries
Eggs Florentine: A Tall John's twist on the classic egg, spinach & hollandaise dish, remixing the benedict formula with buttery slices of brioche toast
Buttermilk Pancakes: Tall stacks of golden-crisp pancakes, topped with maple syrup & butter; blueberry compote or chocolate chips optional
Bruleed Grapefruit: Fresh grapefruit half topped with sugar & a touch of vanilla. Caramelized just enough to require a fancy grapefruit spoon—a perfect balance of juicy & crunchy, sweet & tart
Pimm’s Cup: A crisp blend of flavors—fruit, fresh lemon and ginger ale—with a touch of gin, served in a tall glass with ice
Tall buttermilk pancake stack, English muffin bacon-and-egg brunch burger, Eggs florentine with brioche toast
Payne and his culinary team opted to include a few of the restaurant's most popular dinner dishes on the brunch menu as well, including glazed beets with goat cheese. The decision to include these favorites from dinner is part of Tall John's accommodating approach to hospitality.
Tall John's patio is open seasonally for peak outdoor dining season, with outdoor seating arranged just around the corner from the front door, nestled alongside the historic building's original stone foundation. Patio highlights:

While the patio will entice guests, Tall John's indoor space remains an inviting and attractive gathering space. The carefully renovated dining room, kitchen counter and bar are light and airy during the day thanks to ample windows. At night, the space is intimate and welcoming. Payne and Adams worked with Traci Kearns of Asheville-based Alchemy Design Studio to create a space that seamlessly integrates the building's history into its contemporary design. In April, the renovation was honored with the 2023 Griffin Award, a historic preservation prize judged by the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County.
